Sunday, June 1st, saw the yearly shoot between Guildford, Woking, and Farnham. Yes, THE FLAG was back! And what a glorious day it was, with regard to both the weather and the shooting. The competition started at 11 am and ended around 5 pm with the always-welcome after-shoot buffet.
Thanks go out to the whole Guildford team, especially Richard Fitzpatrick as the event organiser, for their typically masterful job as hosts. The FLAG is a mix of handicap adjusted, Albion and Windsor rounds for all bow styles, aimed at providing a low-pressure, fun shoot between the local clubs. It's a great opportunity to encourage competition and give new archers the experience of shooting in a proper competition, and the day went smoothly, with a lot of laughs and good shooting.
The weather held up its end of the bargain, providing us with a mostly sunny and warm day, with the odd cloud to cool you back down. However, the first and longest distance was a little testy, with some breezy conditions. But overall, the archers did a good job of aerating the ground.
Farnham turned out to compete, although it was close in the Albion, and I think those early windy conditions kept us third. Not so for the seniors shooting the Windsor, where Debi, Janice, Shaun and Andy brought home the Windsor Senior trophy. The Juniors were short of shooters, but Ernie and Henry did a fine job to come second. Special mention to Karen, who we believe shot a barebow county record for the Windsor! Meanwhile, Jon took home the Gold colour prize and Karen the Red and Blue.
Well done to everyone!
