A glorious mid September day saw a number of Farnhams archers take home a haul of medals from the Woking Open including overall Mens first and Team first places. There were also awards for best Bowman score, best 2nd class archer and barebow best gold. So 6 medals for 3 people and we all went home pretty happy!

For me, I arrived at the shoot confident. My shooting has not been too bad at the tail end of the 2019 outdoor season and on average getting better. I'd also shot well at Woking the previous year so I was hopefull of keeping up the performance.

At the end of the first distance I was in first place by about 20 points but I wasn't really shooting great, good but not great and I was a bit down on the previous years score. So trying to stay first became a bit of a mental game and Silesh the man in second was on the target next to me! "Don't look at his target" I kept saying to myself, but it's difficult if you think you have a chance to win. 60 Yards was ok but would the lead be gone? Fortunately, strong finishes on the 60 and 50 yard distances made me feel good that I'd tried my best and in the end it was a comfortable win. But it just goes to show you need to focus on your own game and just do as well as you can.

Mark Ellis was not overly happy with his game, but he'd shot well, a few flyers but overall solid and he took home the medal for best 2nd class archer. Again, the advice is to shoot as well as you can. Don't stress yourself out about the odd wobbly moment, just enjoy the day and you might be pleasantly surprised.

For Karen Lott it's been quite a long year achieving lots, including Barebow GMB but today beat to the title by a mere 10 points. Still got best gold though!

Well done to everyone and onwards and upwards.
